The artist behind Empires of the Sun is an avid traveller and member of the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society, Julie Romanin. Julie has flexed her creative muscle throughout her life, from pottery, painting, and floristry to running arts and craft homeware stalls. Now, her passion lies in jewellery making. Taking cues from Africa, Asia and the Middle East, Julie combines unique items, antique beads and metalwork, recycled and natural materials to create stunning one-of-a-kind pieces.
Each piece comes with a story, a history of how it was crafted, and its symbolism. Through the medium of jewellery making, Julie aims to pay homage to the cultures and traditions of the people involved in creating the beads, pendants and element within each necklace or earring.
